Oswaldo Cabrera

Oswaldo Cabrera

25-Year-Old Third Baseman3B
New York Yankees
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Cabrera got the Opening Day start at third base for the Yankees and cracked seven hits -- including two homers -- in the team's season-opening series in Houston. It was mostly downhill from there and he quickly faded into a utility role. He made just 18 starts in the second half of the regular season, which doesn't exactly bode well for 2025. Cabrera makes consistent contact and hit a career-high eight homers last season, and his defensive versatility is valuable, more so in real life. In another organization, Cabrera might be given more chances, but it's tough to see him breaking out of a part-time role in New York. The bar is simply too high, and Cabrera, who will turn 26 during spring training, hasn't shown that he can clear that bar. Read Past Outlooks

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Cabrera got the start in left field for the Yankees on Opening Day, but he was optioned down after slashing .195/.246/.292 through the end of May. He bounced between levels over the subsequent months before ultimately finding his way back into regular starts over the finals couple weeks. While he enjoyed a productive two-week stretch in September, the overall numbers were downright ugly apart from his perfect success rate in steal attempts (8-for-8). He makes contact often enough, but the quality of that contact is lacking at this stage. Entering his age-25 season, Cabrera will face stiff competition for a spot on the Yankees' active roster. He could very well end up back in the minors to begin 2024 given that he has two options remaining, though his ability to play all around the diamond should help in his bid for utility role.
Cabrera was promoted for his major-league debut in mid-August and quickly earned a regular role in the Yankees' lineup. He closed 2022 with a 247/.312/.429 slash line, six home runs, 19 RBI, 21 runs and three steals in 171 plate appearances. He saw action at every position besides center field, pitcher and catcher and provided plus defense, though he saw most of his playing time in right field. New York's outfield situation remains fluid with Aaron Judge entering free agency, and Cabrera's role for 2023 could change dramatically depending on who is signed/re-signed during the offseason.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Chance to start Opening Day
3BNew York Yankees
March 22, 2024
Cabrera could open the season as the Yankees' starting third baseman if DJ LeMahieu's foot injury requires a trip to the injured list, per Brendan Kuty of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera lines up to fill a utility role with the Bronx Bombers when the team is at full health, but opportunities at third base could be in store to begin the campaign. The 25-year-old played 115 games for the Yankees last season but posted a horrid .211/.275/.299 slash line.
