Rest-of-Season Projections
Embarks on coaching career
The White Sox announced Wednesday that Delmonico will serve as the hitting coach for High-A Winston-Salem in 2022, signaling the end of his playing career, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 29-year-old had been on the open market since June, after the Reds released him from their Triple-A affiliate. Prior to that, Delmonico spent parts of four seasons in the big leagues from 2017 through 2020 -- all with the White Sox -- amassing a .224/.312/.384 slash line, 18 home runs, 57 RBI and three stolen bases in 574 career plate appearances.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2019
2018
Delmonico was sidelined from mid-May to mid-July due to a hand fracture and never found much sustained success in 2018. He hit surprisingly well in 2017 but came crashing back to Earth, posting a .215/.296/.373 slash line in 318 PA for the White Sox, most of which came as a left fielder. The 26-year-old had a 25.2% strikeout rate and 8.5% walk rate -- both of which are salvageable -- but showcased few strengths during the 2018 season. Delmonico seems unlikely to continue to see such extended major-league opportunities with the White Sox without increased production, as the organization still features a strong farm system, including top prospect Eloy Jimenez, who is on the cusp of being called up.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could earn big-league job with Reds
Delmonico might have a shot at cracking the Reds' Opening Day roster, according to Bobby Nightengale of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
ANALYSIS
Delmonico is 6-for-17 in spring training after signing a minor-league deal and his numbers, as well as his ability to play first base, could be two strong factors that might keep him around for the start of the season -- especially since Shogo Akiyama (hamstring) will begin the year on the injured list while there's a lot of uncertainty regarding Joey Votto (illness) following his COVID-19 diagnosis. In four seasons with the White Sox, Delmonico owns a .224/.312/.384 slash line across 574 plate appearances.
