For the second straight year, Cabrera fell short of 400 PA. We should not expect him to clear 400 PA again. Now 35, the switch hitter has been below replacement level by fWAR in two of the last three seasons, and he was barely above the replacement-level threshold in 2018. Cabrera still puts bat to ball with great consistency (10.3 K%), and that skill shows up in his BA, which has not dipped below .280 since 2015. However, it's an empty average; Cabrera doesn't walk (4.3 BB%) and the extra-base power has dried up (.119 ISO, .399 SLG). Statcast says he even overachieved in terms of SLG and xwOBA last season, and making matters worse, he was a big negative on defense. A rebuilding team desperate for a placeholder may bring Cabrera in to serve as a starter, but it's hard to imagine he could maintain steady playing time throughout the season. His skills are simply not worthy of regular at-bats at this point.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Hoping to extend career
Cabrera hopes to play for another couple years, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera remains a free agent at this point but believes he still has some quality MLB seasons in him at age 35. The switch-hitting outfielder slashed .280/.313/.399 with the Pirates last season while maintaining a strikeout rate of just 10.3 percent. Given his contact skills at the plate and questionable fielding ability at this stage, Cabrera's most likely fit would be as a bench piece with an AL club.
