The Nationals released Perdomo on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Washington elected to part ways with Perdomo four days after reassigning him to minor-league camp when his bid for a spot in the Opening Day bullpen fell short. After spending the 2023 season in Japan with Nippon Professional Baseball's Chiba Lotte Marines, Perdomo could look to explore another opportunity overseas now that he's a free agent. Before his stint in Japan, the 30-year-old right-hander had previously seen big-league action with the Padres and Brewers from 2016 through 2022, logging a 23-31 record and 5.12 ERA over 468 innings.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2019
2018
2017
2016
Perdomo's 2018 campaign was a disappointment all around, as he posted an ERA of 7.05 in 44.2 innings and dealt with shoulder issues. He did at least end the season with five straight scoreless innings in September with the shoulder woes presumably behind him, but that's far too small a sample to draw any conclusions from, and his whole body of work wasn't too far off the mediocre-at-best performances he recorded in his first two big-league seasons. While his ERA was certainly inflated by a .389 BABIP and a 61.4% strand rate, his peripherals still weren't pretty. He struck out just 18.0% of batters while walking 10.1%, both well worse than the league average, and his elite groundball proclivity evaporated (from 61.8% to 43.0%). His is very much a long-relief profile, and Perdomo may be stuck in that role for most of this season.
