Added to 60-man player pool

June 29, 2020
Adams was included in Minnesota's 60-man player pool ahead of summer camp before the 2020 season begins, MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 30-year-old failed to reach the majors in 2019 after making brief appearances in the prior two seasons, but he hit .255/.340/.465 with 12 home runs and eight stolen bases over 72 games with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Adams is likely to spend most of his time with with Minnesota's alternate training site, but his past experience in the majors could make him a candidate to get called up at some point this season if injuries pile up.

Adams returned to the big leagues for the first time since 2014 when he received the call from the Braves last season. It's a great story of perseverance, as he spent his age-25 and age-26 seasons riding buses at Double-A and Triple-A in the Royals, Yankees and Cubs organizations. Whether he'll get another chance in 2018 remains to be seen, however, as there are warts under his .275/.339/.468 line, including a 30.3 percent strikeout rate and surprisingly poor splits against lefties in very limited chances against them. The Braves have top prospect Ronald Acuna ready to go at some point early in 2018, leaving Adams to battle for a part-time role with other veterans as the fourth or fifth outfielder during spring training. As long as Acuna, Ender Inciarte and Nick Markakis are all healthy, Adams figures see very limited playing time.
Like several other Royals farmhands, Adams' primary weapon is his speed. Between Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Triple-A Omaha, Adams swiped 31 bases in 38 attempts. He also hit very well at Double-A, slashing .298/.360/.466 with 12 homers and 36 walks. That success did not carry over to Triple-A, though, where his slash line plummeted to .226/.305/.374. The Royals have lots of outfield depth, so it will be tough for the speedster to see significant time with the big club in 2016. However, the Royals have been known to call up players to the big leagues for the specific purpose of running wild on the basepaths, and Adams could fill that role late in the season, especially if he can make some adjustments against Triple-A pitching.
Adams spent the majority of the 2014 season at Double-A Northwest Arkansas, where he slashed .269/.352/.427 over 465 plate appearances. Though he hasn't been able to turn many heads with his bat during his time in the minors, Adams certainly fits the Royals' mold, as his prowess on the basepaths allowed him to swipe a career-best 38 bags at the Double-A level. The 25-year-old finally got his first taste of big league action towards the end of the season, as he joined Carlos Peguero as the two outfielders selected for September callups. Adams found himself buried on the depth chart at the major league level, however, as he was limited to just three at-bats during his time with the club. With the Royals' addition of Alex Rios in free agency, it remains unlikely that Adams will see significant time in the majors in 2015. He may get the call if the right injury situation arises, but the club likely will prefer to see him improve his contact rate at the Triple-A level before bringing him up for a bench role.
