Signs minor league deal with Giants
Pinto has signed a minor league contract with the Giants, Baseball America reports.
ANALYSIS
Pinto battled concussion issues throughout the entire 2015 campaign and only caught 40 games at Triple-A Colorado Springs last season, making 31 appearances at first base, so his future behind the plate is uncertain. Still just 27, Pinto has hit .277/.346/.451 in parts of four seasons at Triple-A. He had seven homers in 57 games with the Twins in 2014 before making six plate appearances for the Brewers late last year.

Pinto once again showed a tantalizing bat in 2016, the bat that has made it impossible to fully give up on him even as he approaches his late 20s. He continued to pound minor league pitching to the tune of a 132 wRC+ over 315 plate appearances. Of course, it should be noted that he did a lot of that damage at Colorado Springs, one of the most hitter-friendly parks in the minors. Pinto still strikes out at a decent clip and simply hasn't developed into a quality defender behind the plate, in large part because multiple concussions have forced him to miss a great deal of developmental time in recent years. As good as his bat would look at catcher, it all of a sudden looks pedestrian compared to right fielders or first basemen, the only other two positions Pinto would have a chance of sticking at in the majors. He signed a minor league deal with the Giants this offseason and simply looks like an organizational depth piece at this point.
