Past Fantasy Outlooks

2009
After a stellar 2009, Fulchino fell back to earth in 2010, seeing both his walk and home run rates rise. The strikeouts were still there, thanks in part to his mid-90s fastball. Fulchino needed offseason surgery to have inflamed tissue removed from his right elbow, but he should be back with Houston and is expected to pitch in middle relief if he's healthy.
After spending the majority of his career bouncing around between various farm systems, the 29-year-old Fulchino finally got a chance to be a regular bullpen contributor in 2009 with the Astros. He didn't disappoint, posting a 3.40 ERA and 1.183 WHIP through 61 appearances. He exhibits solid peripherals, including a resistance to the long ball. Fulchino won't close for the Astros in 2010, so unless your league counts holds, he will have little impact except in deep NL-only leagues.
After spending the entire 2007 season with Triple-A Albuquerque, Fulchino was with the Royals’ bullpen for two stints in 2008. He was pretty ineffective in six June innings, allowing the opposition to hit .346 and posting an even 5:5 K:BB ratio. He stuck around for a bit longer in his second trial with the team, but still posted an ERA of 9.00, an opposing OPS of 1.011 and an overall WHIP of 2.09. He will have a chance to win a bullpen spot in spring training, and his ability to pitch in long or short relief could win him a job.
