January 5, 2018
Williams agreed to a minor-league deal with the Pirates, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
ANALYSIS
Williams spent the 2017 season bouncing around between the Pirates' Double-A and Triple-A affiliates, and will return to the organization on a one-year deal. During 30 games with Triple-A Indianapolis, he slashed an underwhelming .192/.257/.240 with one home run and three RBI in 30 games. He will likely remain with the Pirates in 2018, and doesn't provide any sort of upside for fantasy purposes.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2016
2015
After being drafted by the Giants in the 2007, Williams finally made his debut with the club this past September. It was in a reserve role, and he didn't do much at the plate (two hits in 10 at-bats). He has never shown much offensive potential at the plate in the minors, so we can write him off as organizational depth for whatever team decides to pick him up this offseason.
After four-plus seasons toiling at the Triple-A level, Williams finally broke through to the majors last June at age 28. He wound up logging a rather unmemorable 18 plate appearances with the Rockies, all coming in the second half when Wilin Rosario missed time due to injury. Though he’s received high marks for his work behind the plate, Williams’ offensive numbers have never dazzled during his time in the minors, and at this stage of his career, he represents little more than organizational catching depth. He’ll operate in that capacity with the Angels, whom he latched on with after the Rockies dropped him from their 40-man roster. Expect Williams to see nearly all of his duty this season at Triple-A Salt Lake, only getting the call to the majors when one of the Angels’ backstops suffers an injury.
