Bailey signed a minor-league contract with the Athletics on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Bailey was let go by Minnesota in September of 2020, and he'll report to Triple-A Las Vegas going forward. The right-hander didn't appear with a team during spring training, but he made the roster for Team USA during the Olympic qualifying tournament. The 35-year-old has made 33 major-league starts across the last two seasons, and he posted a 4.52 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in 171.1 innings during that time.

This past season was ugly, but Bailey deserves credit for clawing back after it looked like he was completely toast several years ago. The 2018 campaign saw him suffer through an abysmal season with Cincinnati while 2019 saw him rebound with the Royals and Athletics, enough to get a one-year deal for $7 million to pitch for Minnesota in 2020. Bailey made two starts for the Twins around an injury before he was released by the club. All in all, he made just under $1.3 million per outing, or just under $2.6 million to throw eight innings for Minnesota. Not bad work if you can get it, although that contract may be the last work he gets in the big leagues. He lost 2.6 mph off his fastball from 2019 to 2020 and is coming off a forearm injury which may just be the body telling him to wrap it up. Either way, Bailey is not draftable until we see some radar-gun readings.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Looking to keep momentum with Twins
Bailey, who signed a one-year, $7 million contract with the Twins on Tuesday, will look to build on what was a resurgent 2019 season with his new club, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The veteran right-hander will reportedly be rewarded for his durability if he can put together another strong campaign, as Kramer reports performance bonuses will kick in at the 180-inning mark. After three mostly disastrous campaigns with the Reds from 2016-18, Bailey tied a career best with 13 wins and got his ERA back under 5.00 (4.57) for the first time since 2014 last season while pitching for both the Royals and Athletics. Bailey hasn't pitched more than last year's 163.1 innings since 2013, however, so he may be challenged to reach the escalator clause in his deal.
