2021 Fantasy Outlook
Yan was impressive in his first stint at Low-A ball in 2019, posting a 3.17 FIP and 32.3 K% over 109 innings. The southpaw's fastball velocity has increased as he has progressed through the lower levels of the minors and can now touch the upper 90s, and he pairs the pitch well with an above-average curveball, though his changeup remains a work in progress. Yan has started 53 of the 42 games he has pitched in the minors and is being developed for a rotation role in the big leagues, though that could be decided by how well he is able to develop a reliable third pitch and better harness his control -- though better than his Rookie-league rates, Yan's 11.4 BB% in 2019 needs significant improvement. His ascension to the majors would likely be more rapid with a shift to the bullpen, but the Angels -- and fantasy managers -- could reap greater benefits if he completes the journey to becoming a big-league starter.
