2024 Fantasy Outlook
Garcia's first year with Miami in 2022 was a disaster with a .583 OPS and eight homers in 97 games, but last season was even worse with a .185/.241/.315 slash line in just 37 contests. He spent most of the season on the injured list with back and hamstring issues, and he struck out at a career-worst 33.6 percent clip when available. The veteran outfielder may have deserved some better results with a .227 xBA and .407 xSLG, but those figures are hardly indicative of a turnaround, especially given the rising swing-and-miss in his stroke. Garcia has two years and $29 million remaining on his deal which will likely garner him some opportunities to open 2024, but the Marlins may cut their losses if he's unable to show some improvement early on in the campaign. He clubbed 29 home runs for Milwaukee in 2021 but has been a pale shadow of that player the past two seasons, and a return to that form shouldn't be expected in 2024, even if he's able to bounce back. Garcia joined the Marlins on a four-year, $53 million deal in November 2021, and his first year in Miami was a massive disappointment. He hit .224 with just eight home runs in 98 games during 2022 compared to a .262 average and 29 long balls in the prior campaign. A repeat performance should never have been expected given it was only the second time the veteran had cracked 20 homers in a season, but his 66 wRC+ and 28.7 percent strikeout rate were both career worsts by a significant margin. Garcia should open 2023 in a starting role given his contract and seems likely to bounce back in some form, but it may not be enough to make him more than a fringe fantasy option.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Preparing body for 2023
Garcia has admitted that he was not in the proper shape ahead of the 2022 season, and he's already slimmed down to prepare for the 2023 campaign, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Garcia had a down season with the Marlins in 2022, slashing .224/.266/.317 with eight homers, 35 RBI and four stolen bags across 98 games after hitting .262 with 29 long balls and 86 RBI during the 2021 season in Milwaukee over 135 contests. However, he's been determined over the offseason to take better care of his body and has lost "a ton of weight," per Mish. Garcia will have plenty of chances to show what he can do in Miami, as the expectation is that he'll begin 2023 as the starting right fielder.
