Latest Fantasy Rumors
Pirates career in jeopardy?
Santana, who missed all of 2019 due to Tommy John surgery, will also sit out all of 2020 and part of 2021 as a result of the 80-game suspension he was handed Sunday, ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old was flagged for a violation of MLB's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program as a result of a positive test for a performance enhancer, Boldenone. With the 2020 regular season consisting of only 60 games, Santana's suspension will carry over into the first 20 contests of the 2021 campaign as well. While the right-hander displayed solid promise over his first two major-league stints during the 2017 and 2018 seasons, the fact he'll now go two-plus years, at minimum, between regular-season game action and is the subject of MLB-level disciplinary action could make him less desirable as a long-term asset to the organization. Conversely, it's at least worth pointing out the fact Santana isn't eligible for unrestricted free agency until 2024 could be a saving grace for his immediate future in Pittsburgh.
