Dwight Smith

Smith battled injuries through much of 2019 after being traded to the Orioles last March, and he was unable to lock down a consistent starting role even in the weak Baltimore outfield. Injuries to other members of the outfield allowed Smith to log 392 plate appearances last season, but he ended up hitting .241/.297/.412 with just five stolen bases. Smith has shown some speed potential in the past, but his struggles to get on base limited his stolen-base opportunities in 2019. The 27-year-old's contact rate fell to 77% in 2019, while his walk rate fell to 6.6%. Smith grades out poorly on the defensive side, and there's nothing in the batted-ball profile to suggest there's a next level with the bat. Even a bottom-feeding team like the Orioles will probably find a way to reduce Smith's role further in 2020. They could phase him out completely by midseason.
