Rest-of-Season Projections
Moving on to Japan
Neverauskas signed a one-year, $875,000 contract Monday with the Hiroshima Toyo Carp of Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball, Yahoo Sports Japan reports.
ANALYSIS
After being dropped from the Pirates' 40-man roster earlier this month, Neverauskas likely would have had to settle for a minor-league deal this winter had he opted to continue his career in North America. Instead, he'll head overseas for a guaranteed deal in Japan, though he could revisit a return to MLB in 2021. Over parts of four seasons with the Pirates spanning 76 relief appearances, Neverauskas logged a 6.81 ERA and 1.59 WHIP.

2018
2017
On the heels of a decent 2017 campaign, Neverauskas struggled mightily in 2018 -- at least he did in the majors. He landed an Opening Day roster spot despite a rough spring, but he spent much of the season shuttling between Triple-A Indianapolis and the majors. The results? With Pittsburgh, the Lithuanian scuffled to the tune of an 8.00 ERA and 1.48 WHIP. However, at Triple-A, he shined with a 2.53 ERA and 1.32 WHIP. He even produced his best strikeout rate with Indianapolis (11.3 K/9), though it was offset by a brutal 5.9 BB/9. Neverauskas figures to play a similar role for the Pirates in 2019, riding the shuttle and providing middle relief help in Pittsburgh as needed.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
May be headed overseas
Neverauskas has interest in pitching overseas after being designated for assignment Sunday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Neverauskas never found his stride in Pittsburgh as he compiled a 6.81 ERA across 76 total appearances since 2017. That will likely limit his future in the major leagues, particularly due to his inability to throw an effective fastball. However, his pitching days may not be over altogether, as Mackey also reported that there is mutual interest between Neverauskas and a club in Asia.
