2015 Fantasy Outlook
The Giants signed Carbonell out of Cuba in June, inking him to a four-year, $3.5 million major-league deal and thus, putting him immediately on the 40-man roster. After signing, he played in just 21 games at High-A San Jose, showing steady production in the limited sample as a player older than the competition in the hitter-friendly California League. In terms of tools, Carbonell's greatest asset is speed. At 6-foot-3, 220 pounds, he has projectability that suggests power potential, but it wasn't part of his game as a professional in Cuba (career .287/.395/.398). Most scouting reports on Carbonell point to a future as a fourth outfielder, where his plus-speed may prove to be useful if he can earn enough playing time. Look for him to begin 2015 at Double-A Richmond, which should serve as a good test to determine where he's truly at in his development in his age-24 season.
