Past Fantasy Outlooks
2021
2020
Menez broke into the major leagues in 2019 as a member of the rotation -- the same role he held while climbing through the organization. However, he was quickly relegated to a bullpen role and remained there for the entirety of the 2020 campaign. In total, Menez has posted a respectable 4.13 ERA across 28.1 major-league frames, but has been hampered by both a 5.4 BB/9 and 1.9 HR/9. Looking forward, Menez's future is as a reliever due to his shaky command and limited arsenal. He relies primarily on a fastball-slider combo, which he has combined to throw at a 78% rate during his initial stints in the major leagues. The Giants' 40-man roster is going to be more impressive with each ensuing campaign as the team enters a contention window, so Menez will have to pitch well to remain in the picture.
Menez made it to the majors for the first time in 2019, pitching in eight games for the Giants. He struggled as a starter, giving up 10 earned runs in 12.2 innings, but impressed by tossing 4.1 scoreless frames while whiffing nearly two batters per inning out of the bullpen. Although the southpaw doesn't throw heat -- his fastball clocks in at 91-92 mph -- his deceptive delivery and above-average spin rate have resulted in solid strikeout numbers at every minor-league level and a 30.1 K% during his short stay in the majors. However, Menez has been held back by poor control throughout most his his minor-league career, and that flaw reared its head as he posted a 16.4 BB% over his 17 innings with San Francisco. Menez has been a starter through most of his professional career and could reprise that role with the Giants, but he'll need to work out his control issues in order to become a reliable option.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Appears set to return next week
PSan Francisco Giants
August 3, 2019
Menez, who allowed two runs while striking out seven over five innings for Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday, appears likely to return to the Giants' rotation Tuesday against the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
Dereck Rodriguez was optioned down and Menez lines up to fill the hole in the rotation the next time the Giants need a fifth starter. The results have taken a hit since Menez moved back to Triple-A, but it's the Pacific Coast League, and he's navigated that tough environment pretty well all things considered (4.06 ERA, 33.9 percent strikeout rate). The lefty made his big-league debut July 21, allowing a pair of homers but just one other hit over five innings against the Mets. He could be in line for a longer stay with the big club this time around.
