Returns from IL
Gittens (knee) has gone 5-for-14 with a walk, an RBI and a run in four games for Triple-A Sugar Land since being reinstated the 7-day injured list last Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Gittens had been sidelined all season at Triple-A after suffering a torn meniscus in his right knee early in spring training and requiring surgery. The 30-year-old doesn't possess a spot on Houston's 40-man roster and will face an uphill battle to make it back to the majors, where he last appeared in 2021 as a member of the Yankees.

2017 Fantasy Outlook
Gittens is a beefy first baseman who was a bit old for Low-A in 2016. However, after being drafted as a small school prospect out of Grayson College in 2014, the Yankees decided to exercise some caution with their 12th-round draft pick. Gittens has also battled some weight issues in the past, and his size likely limits him to first base or DH duties. Still, Gittens flashed his power last season, hitting 21 home runs and knocking in 70 runs in 107 games for Low-A Charleston. Gittens finished second in the South Atlantic League in home runs, and eighth in RBI, but strikeouts remain a concern as he fanned 126 times in those 107 contests. Gittens also has noticeable splits; he hit .324 against lefties but just .225 against righties in 2016. The 22-year-old slugger should be challenged more at High-A to begin the 2017 campaign. His power is legit, but he will have to show he can hit righties to become more than just a platoon player.
