August 12, 2015
Sands, 20, has a 4.06 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 24 strikeouts in 37.2 innings with short season Eugene.
ANALYSIS
He had a start on July 19 where he gave up nine runs while recording just one out -- an outing that has put his season numbers all out of whack. Excluding that start, Sands has given up just one run in his last four starts (17.1 innings), so it is still pretty easy to get excited about the young southpaw. He should be given a full season assignment out of camp next season and has the chance to really climb up the prospect ranks.

2016 Fantasy Outlook
The Cubs selected Sands with the 109th pick in 2014, and the 20-year-old lefty is already plenty polished. His fastball sits at 90-92 mph, and he's able to mix in a changeup without a noticeable drop in arm speed. With a clean delivery and a good feel for pitching, Sands may develop into a steady back-end starter, with the potential for a bit more growth if he's able to refine his inconsistent breaking ball as he advances as a pro. In 76.1 innings at the low levels of the minors, he has a 3.42 ERA, but those numbers were skewed by one disastrous outing last year. He'll probably start the year with High-A Myrtle Beach and advance quickly, but his 61:28 K:BB in the minors indicates he still has a bit of work to do.
