Rest-of-Season Projections
Torres was released by the Braves on Wednesday, David O'Brain of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
After Torres was reassigned to the Braves' minor league camp on Monday, he was released on Wednesday. Last season the left-handed reliever pitched 34.1 innings for the Mets before the Braves signed him to a minor league deal in the offseason. Torres had the potential to play in the majors this season but general manager John Coppolella stated that Torres was "just not a good fit." With past major-league experience, the 28-year-old would be a nice fit for a team looking to bolster their left-handed depth in the bullpen.

Most of the attention that Torres received was the result of the bulbous protective pitching helmet he wore below his cap beginning in mid-June of last season. His ERA swelled to 5.04 over his final 25 innings after he pitched to a 1.86 mark prior to trying the headgear. Torres posted a reverse platoon split last season, while spending the entire 2014 campaign in the Padres' bullpen. Of the 33 free passes he issued, 25 came against left-handed batters (21.0% BB%), and the struggles against lefties were a completely new element in his profile after he fanned them at a 35.2% rate in 2013 while carrying a tidy 5.7% walk rate. For the second straight season, his numbers at home were much better than on the road, as he benefited from the pitcher-friendly tendencies of Petco Park after enjoying the confines of Tropicana Field and the Rays' quality defense in 2013. With a return to form against lefties, Torres has the makings of a quality late-inning reliever.
