Greene has signed a minor league contract with the Phillies, ESPN's Jayson Stark reports.
ANALYSIS
Greene, a first-round pick by the Cardinals in 2005, spent the entire 2014 season at the Triple-A level, slashing .298/.345/.446 with 10 homers and 63 RBI in 126 games. The 31-year-old can play both middle infield positions as well as the outfield, but he's just a .224/.289/.356 career hitter at the major league level (746 plate appearances) and will likely play out most, if not all, of the year as organizational depth in the minors.

Greene received regular at-bats after being traded to Houston and made some positive impressions down the stretch. The former first-round pick finished the year with a strong .460 slugging percentage, which is great for a middle infielder even if the batting average (.246) was not quite where it needed to be. He profiles well as a platoon player: .280/.318/.500 against lefties and just .198/.246/.337 against righties. With teammate Jed Lowrie sporting opposite platoon splits, Greene should see semi-regular time at short when the Astros face southpaws.
