Quentin was released by the Red Sox at the end of minor-league spring training, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
ANALYSIS
This may be the end of the line for the 34-year-old's playing career. Quentin, a two-time All-Star, hasn't appeared in the majors since 2014. He battled injuries throughout his time in the big leagues, topping 100 games played in just three of nine seasons at the highest level.

Quentin spent brief stints with the Mariners and Braves organizations early last season before announcing his retirement in May, but he'll return to the game in hopes of cracking the Twins Opening Day roster as a DH option off the bench. The 33-year-old hit just .177 in his last taste of Major League action back in 2014, but he slashed .275/.363/.493 for the Padres just three seasons ago. Quentin is a long shot to make the 25-man roster, but could try to revive his career in Triple-A.
