Rest-of-Season Projections
Dobbs has accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Syracuse.
ANALYSIS
The Nats booted Dobbs from the 40-man roster last week, and after passing through waivers unclaimed, the 36-year-old has decided to play out the rest of the year as organizational depth in the minor leagues. Assuming Dobbs continues his playing career beyond 2014, he'll almost certainly have to settle for another minors deal in the offseason.

Batting .228/.303/.300 over 267 plate appearances, Dobbs saw regression across the board from the previous season, thanks in large part to a 58-point drop in his batting average on balls in play. The veteran infielder also struggled as a pinch hitter -- knocking just 10 hits in 48 at-bats -- an area in which he has excelled in the past. The Marlins' lack of depth at both corner-infield positions will likely secure Dobbs a bench role despite the absence of power, plate discipline, and speed in his game. If he sees more than the 51 starts he was given in 2013, something has gone horribly wrong in South Beach.
