The Padres released Ashby (elbow) on Thursday, the San Diego Union Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Ashby had made just two relief apperances in the last two years after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2003. "I've known Andy a long time and he's one of my all-time favorite players," Padres' manager Bruce Bochy said. Ashby was a key part of the rotation on Padres' NL West championship team of 1996 and World Series runner-up squad of 1998.
