If Fernandez had made it through his half-season unscathed, he would've been the No. 1 starter on a lot of boards, even over Clayton Kershaw. He missed a month with strained biceps after seven excellent starts, but returned for four starts in September/October, three of which were tremendous. There is no questioning the skills of Fernandez. He has proven them beyond a shadow of a doubt in 289 career innings, but the health is a valid concern after his 2014 Tommy John surgery and then a biceps injury after his return. An innings limit could hold Fernandez back from being the top starter in 2016. Early reports point to something around 180 innings. Even with a limit, he is still a premium, frontline arm. Since the start of 2012 (minimum 250 innings), he's third in ERA, third in strikeout rate, fourth in WHIP, and seventh in HR/9. Chris Sale was the sixth best starter in 2014 in only 174 innings; Fernandez is that kind of talent.
