Rest-of-Season Projections
Won't play in 2021
Kratz doesn't intend to play during the 2021 season, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Kratz spent most of the 2020 season on the Yankees' 40-man roster and hit .321 with four RBI over 28 at-bats. However, he announced Friday that he won't play in 2021. "My next season will not be as a player, that's for sure," Kratz said. "I am deciding not to play." It appears as though the 40-year-old intends to retire, as he finishes his career with a .611 OPS, 31 home runs and 105 RBI over 10 seasons with 10 different teams.

Kratz knocked in a pair of runs in Game 2 of the NLDS after waiting until age 38 to finally play in a playoff game. It was a remarkable achievement for a player who didn't reach MLB until after his 30th birthday and who has appeared for seven different clubs, mostly as a third or fourth catcher. Heartwarming heroics aside, the veteran offered very little fantasy value and is unlikely to do so in 2019. His .236/.280/.355 line was in line with his career .211/.258/.363 mark. That's not enough to make for a particularly interesting option even if an injury were to open up a starting role. After the Yasmani Grandal signing, one of Kratz or Manny Pina will not break camp with the big club. At his age, the chance for a performance drop-off is far greater than the chance for a significant improvement, so unless your league has found a way to give points for catcher framing and veteran leadership, Kratz can safely be ignored during draft season.
