Over two-plus seasons with the Orioles, Clevenger spent most of his time as an insurance policy at Triple-A, getting stretches in the big leagues when Matt Wieters was on the DL. With a healthy Wieters back in the fold for 2016 and Caleb Joseph proving to be a capable backup, the Orioles flipped Clevenger to the Mariners during the offseason. In Seattle, he will likely carry a similar role, affording the Mariners some flexibility with Mike Zunino, as Clevenger may begin the year working in tandem with Chris Iannetta until Zunino irons out his contact issues in the minors. Long term, it's difficult to imagine anything more than a part-time role for Clevenger, but he's flashed useful on-base skills as a Triple-A player in each of the last two campaigns.
