The 28-year-old catcher played his part by giving the Red Sox top catchers some innings off this spring, and he should head to Triple-A to work with the organization's next wave of pitchers.

2013 Fantasy Outlook
At 25 years old, Solis had made it as far as he was going to go in the Padres' system before they released him in October. He had gone from rookie ball in 2006 to making his MLB debut this past season, all the while showing no real gains in his bat. He was claimed off waivers by the Pirates and will likely get a chance to compete for a spot on their roster in the spring, but nothing is assured for a catcher who hit .283/.307/.419 with six homers over 343 plate appearances at Double-A San Antonio for much of 2012. If anything, they'll take him on as someone who can play plus defense in their minor league system.
