Miller's baseball career appears to be over as he has enrolled at the University of Alabama and will try to play football this fall, MASN Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller played in 28 MLB games but was stuck in the minors for all of 2012. He seems to think he has a better opportunity with football at this point, even though he will be 28-years-old in a couple of weeks.

Miller had a breakout season at Triple-A Sacramento, hitting .276/.368/.588 in 110 games, but it was his fourth straight year with at least 90 games at the Triple-A level and he's too old to be a top prospect at 27. In other words, temper your expectations. While the power-speed combination looks nice on paper, the 179 strikeouts in 410 at-bats is a troubling sign given his age and experience. He'll likely get a look in spring training after he was traded to Baltimore, but he's your basic "Four-A" player - better than an average Triple-A player, not good enough to be a major league regular.
Miller had the best season of his career at the plate in 2009, but a midseason oblique injury robbed him of his usual speed. His strikeouts are still worrisome, and he might never be the 20/20 player in the majors that his minor league line hints at, but at worst his glove will make him a very useful fourth outfielder and he's the kind of player the budget-conscious Marlins would give a starting job to if Chris Coghlan moves to second base and they need a left fielder.
He keeps adding power to his offensive arsenal and is learning to better use his speed on the base paths, and for the second straight season he hit for a good enough batting average to make it up to 'intriguing prospect' status. The biggest obstacle for Miller right now is that Cameron Maybin is ahead of him in the queue, but a 25/25 season at Triple-A would go a long way towards making the Marlins clear room for him in one of their outfield corners.
For the first time in his minor league career, Miller hit for a semi-respectable batting average, but he still strikes out a ton and aside from a solid batting eye he's more toolsy long shot than a skilled, polished prospect. He's only 23 and still has time to refine those tools, but he needs to show more development before he'll be someone worth paying a lot of attention to.
