Johnson was recently promoted to Triple-A and is in line for a major league promotion if something happens to San Diego's starting first baseman, Adrian Gonzalez, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
ANALYSIS
He earned the promotion with a .284 average (29-for-102), six home runs and 18 RBI at Double-A San Antonio. Johnson is almost 27 years old and is not a top prospect, but he has played himself onto the Padres' radar screen.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2006
2005
2004
Johnson finally hit his stride in 2005, landing him a gig in the Arizona Fall League, where he excelled. He'll be 26 by mid-season, which means the time is now for him. He does have a bit of an injury history, so bear that in mind if he makes the big leagues in 2006.
The Clemson product projects as your typical high OPS first base prospect. Behind in development due to contractual issues, his first full season began in 2004 and he struggled initially, then lost time to injury. A former college teammate of Khalil Greene, he'll need to put last season behind him and find his mark quickly. At age 24 and not yet at an advanced level, he can ill-afford another setback.
The Padres managed to sign their second-round pick from 2002 with minutes to spare before the deadline that would have allowed him to re-enter the June draft. The big first baseman was a .636 slugger in four years at Clemson where he teamed with fellow Padre prospect Khalil Greene. He began his pro career in High Single-A Lake Elsinore, where he posted an .809 OPS in 178 at-bats. The position is filled in the immediate future but with big power potential, he's somebody to track for the long term.
