ANALYSIS
Rodriguez is just 26, and may be able to bounce back from this setback eventually. No longer on the 40-man roster, he is nearly a lock to begin the season in the minor leagues.

Once considered a possible successor to K-Rod, this Rodriguez hasn't quite taken to relief work as well as hoped, not getting the boost in strikeout rate most pitchers get upon the move to the bullpen. He could settle into a seventh-inning role in the next couple of seasons, but advancing further than that is unlikely given that he's not a dominant arm.
Rodriguez posted a 1.86 ERA in 53.1 innings with Double-A Arkansas but struggled to a 6.28 ERA in only 14.1 innings when bumped up to Triple-A Salt Lake. Rodriguez will only be 24 next season but has already been in the Angels’ organization for eight seasons. He isn’t one of the Angels’ top prospects but should get a shot to prove himself in spring training this season. Most likely, expect him to begin the season with Salt Lake.
Rodriguez has been a pro for five seasons, yet will be just 22 when the '07 campaign opens. He'll be looking to master the Texas League, which pummeled him mercilessly last season. No chance of impact in '07, just a name to remember in very deep leagues for when he finally converts to relief and starts destroying people.
Rodriquez was finally healthy for the first time since the Angels drafted him in 2001 at age 16. He posted great numbers at Low-A Cedar Rapids going 5-2 with a 2.78 ERA over 13 starts covering 74 1/3 innings. He struck out 74 and walked 27 during that span. He found High-A a bit tougher posting a 6.75 ERA over 14 starts. He's likely to start 2006 in High-A again. There is some decent upside here, so keep an eye on him.
