Thomas (elbow) will become a free agent as the Tigers are outrighting him to Triple-A Toledo, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
He'll likely end up with a low-cost, perhaps even a minor league deal, as he searches for work elsewhere this winter.

Thomas, who pitched in Korea during the 2008 and 2009 seasons, was a surprisingly reliable part of the Tigers' bullpen in 2010. The 33-year-old lefty compiled a 6-2 record and 3.89 ERA in 49 appearances for Detroit. With Phil Coke moving to the rotation, Thomas will have a chance to earn an even more important role with the Tigers next season. Even with an increased role, however, Thomas is unlikely to make much of a fantasy impact.
Thomas has a shot at making the Minnesota bullpen this spring after improving in his second year at Triple-A. Thomas improved his control with a 51:10 K:BB ratio in 58.7 innings for Rochester, which earned him a late-season call-up with the Twins. If J.C. Romero continues to struggle with his control, Thomas could win a prominent job in the bullpen.
Thomas struggled in 2002, but has a lively fastball (clocked at 96 MPH) and is still viewed as a possible lefty in the bullpen down the road. Needs to improve to be a factor in 2004.
