2017 Fantasy Outlook
Wood dominated High-A in 2016 before a promotion to Double-A Montgomery brought him down to Earth a little bit. His 1.70 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in 63.2 innings over nine starts earned him the promotion. In Double-A, he still had a respectable ERA of 3.28 and a 1.14 WHIP, meaning his combined ERA was 2.39. Double-A hitters didn't exactly tee off on Wood, either. High-A hitters posted a .153 average against him in 2016, while hitters at the next level hit .202. He walked 9.7 percent of hitters at High-A and 10.1 percent at Double-A, while striking out slightly more hitters as well, so his advanced numbers did not take any major hits with the promotion. The right-handed starter will presumably begin 2017 in Double-A again, though Rays management could see it fit to elevate him to the next level, in which case he would start with Triple-A Durham.
