2017 Fantasy Outlook
Coats' first full season at the Triple-A level was a largely successful one. While in the minors, the 26-year-old posted a strong .330/.394/.519 slash line thanks to 34 of his 98 hits going for extra bases. His walk rate also jumped up to 7.5 percent and he turned in a solid .189 ISO. However, some things didn't go as planned with Charlotte, as Coats' strikeout rate spiked above 20 percent for the first time in his career and his contact rate dipped below 80 percent. These struggles followed the outfielder to the big leagues -- his strikeout and contact rates stayed roughly the same, resulting in a .200 batting average. To be fair, Coats did perform reasonably well during his second stint in Chicago, putting together an .810 OPS over his last 16 games, although his path to playing to playing time will depend on where he signs in free agency over the offseason.
