Parts ways with San Francisco
The Giants declared Rickard (elbow) a free agent Sunday, Chris Hilburn-Trenkle of Baseball America reports.
ANALYSIS
San Francisco initially outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento after he cleared waivers over the weekend, but the 29-year-old has apparently decided to test his luck on the open market rather than returning to the organization. The outfielder appeared in four contests for the Giants during the 60-game 2020 campaign before being ruled out for the season Aug. 31 with left elbow inflammation.

Rickard's modest .244/.300/.413 line back in 2018 may wind up being his career year. The Orioles gave up on him after 42 games last season, sending him to the minors with a .203/.304/.347 slash line. He made his way to the Giants' organization after getting designated for assignment in mid-June and wound up spending most of the final two months in the big leagues, hitting .280/.333/.380 in limited action for his new club. Altogether, his final season line sat at .226/.312/.357 with three homers and four steals in 189 plate appearances. That might be good enough to be a bench outfielder on a non-contender given that Rickard can passably handle center field. It's unlikely that he'll be much more than that in his age-29 season, as he's reaching the age where there's little incentive for rebuilding teams to give him a significant role.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
May be non-tendered
Rickard (elbow) could be non-tendered by the Giants during the offseason, Maria Guardado of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 29-year-old was non-tendered by the Giants last winter before receiving a non-roster invite to spring training, and he had his contract selected by the team in late August. Rickard went 0-for-5 in four games before being lost for the season with an elbow injury. It's unclear how long he's expected to be sidelined, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see him non-tendered by San Francisco again within the next few months.
