ANALYSIS
The 29-year-old utility infielder has now been cut loose by both organizations in the Bay Area this season, as Oakland previously released him in July. Jackson, who appeared in three games with the Athletics earlier this season as a COVID-19 replacement player, saw action exclusively at Triple-A Sacramento during his time in the Giants organization and batted .200 over 10 games.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2017
2016
Jackson was unable to build off of his mammoth performance in the Northwest League from 2015. Skipping Low-A altogether, Jackson was placed in the hitter-friendly confines of the California League but could not replicate his performance from a season ago. He slashed .258/.332/.345 with six home runs, 47 RBI and 16 steals (on 24 attempts) in 124 games for High-A Bakersfield. Jackson has the defensive chops to stick at shortstop, but he may never hit double-digit home runs and his decline in stolen bases suggests he was simply taking advantage of inexperienced short-season batteries back in 2015 and may only be a 55 or 60-grade runner. It seems that the Mariners may have been overhasty by assigning him to High-A last season, so he could be sent back to the Cal League to begin the 2016 campaign in an attempt to get him back on track. The perceived upside that stemmed from his first professional season has evaporated and he can be cut loose in the majority of dynasty leagues.
Whenever a player swipes 47 bases in his first 56 games as a professional, it is worth taking notice. Jackson, a fifth-round pick out of Stanford in last year’s draft, was met with very little resistance in 266 plate appearances with short-season Everett. At 22 years old, it should not come as a surprise that he was able to hold his own in the Northwest League, but the fact that he did so much more than just hold his own is what makes him interesting. That and the speed, of course. As his .432 OBP indicates, Jackson’s approach appears to be quite advanced, as he had a 30:35 BB:K in 56 games. It’s conceivable, and maybe likely, that Jackson eventually moves off shortstop, but if he continues to hit then his speed will keep him on the prospect radar regardless of his position on the field.
