Rest-of-Season Projections
Inks minors deal with Colorado
Hessler signed a minor-league contract with the Rockies on Tuesday, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports.
ANALYSIS
The southpaw spent the entirety of the past season at the Triple-A level after playing in 17 big-league games split between San Diego and Arizona in 2016. During those contests in the majors, Hessler posted a 4.15 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and a 11:13 K:BB over 21.2 innings of relief. Looking ahead, he will likely start off the 2018 campaign with Triple-A Albuquerque, but could earn a summer promotion if he's able to up his strikeout rate from previous seasons.

We all know about Jeurys Familia, but Jason Collette tells fantasy owners who they should also be focused on in the Mets' bullpen, and on every NL team.
Could Didi Gregorius only now be finding his way with the bat? It’s certainly possible, as he’s still a young 25-year old.
2017 Fantasy Outlook
Hessler joined the Padres after being claimed off waivers from Arizona in May, and he spent the rest of the 2016 season shuttling between El Paso and San Diego. After losing more than a mile-per-hour off his fastball from 2015, Hessler's strikeout rate slipped from 21.1 percent to 10.7 percent in his first season with the Friars. With a fastball-slider combo, the 28-year-old lefty should get another opportunity to stick in 2017, especially since he was effective during his time at El Paso (28.0 percent strikeout rate, 8.0 percent walk rate) while allowing just one home run over 36.2 innings in the hitter-friendly environments of the Pacific Coast League. Unfortunately, he's no lock to remain on the 40-man roster as the Padres may elect to use his spot on a younger player with a higher ceiling.
