Rest-of-Season Projections
Martinez, 21, is batting .367 over his last 10 games for Low-A South Bend.
ANALYSIS
The Cuban defector is now hitting .242/.318/.374 on the season. Martinez has six home runs and five steals through 59 games as he adjusts to professional ball in the United States. His upside remains high, though the Cubs may not aggressively push him with their current wealth of outfielders.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2017
2016
The makings of a potential star player are here, but Martinez is still extremely raw. He got off to a miserable start to 2016 in his first year with a full-season affiliate, batting .235 and .212 with Low-A South Bend in April and May, respectively. He surged in July but failed to build on that momentum, as some bad habits (both at the plate and on the basepaths) returned late. Martinez struck out at least 21 times in all five full months of the minor league season, totaling 113 strikeouts in 517 plate appearances (21.9 percent) while posting a paltry .121 ISO -- that puts a damper on his solid 9.7 percent walk rate for the season. Now 22, Martinez didn't show signs that he's ready for the next step, and the Cubs won't have reason to push him aggressively, so another full season in the lower levels seems likely for the right fielder.
