Past Fantasy Outlooks
2019
2016
The best season of Adolfo's career was cut short when he opted for Tommy John surgery in July. A prized international signing in 2013, Adolfo would showcase his monster raw power in batting practice, but only started getting to it regularly in games at Low-A in 2017. He followed that campaign up by continuing to exhibit light-tower power to all fields while upping his walk rate from 6.6% to 10.1% and cutting his strikeout rate from 31.5% to 27.4%. Adolfo also improved his batted-ball profile, upping his Oppo% from 26.8% to 34.2% and increasing his LD% from 18.6% to 22.6%. Nobody expects him to hit for a notably high average in the big leagues, but as long as he is taking his fair share of walks and hitting around .250, his bat would profile in the middle of a big-league lineup. Of course, given the 22-year-old's swing-and-miss issues, he may also just not hit enough to factor into the White Sox's outfield mix. He could return to game action in March.
Adolfo was one of Chicago's biggest splashes in the Latin American market in recent years, signing a contract worth $1.6 million in 2013. Two seasons later, and he is still just entering his age-19 season and still virtually all projection. He has yet to escape the AZL, and has yet to learn how to take a walk. Fortunately, he still has time to learn, and has the raw tools to eventually turn into a power corner outfielder. Adolfo had surgery in August to repair a fractured fibula, but he should be ready for spring training and to play out all of 2016 in the low minors.
