Sent to minors
Hernandez was sent to the team's minor-league camp Monday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hernandez always faced long odds of making the big-league roster as a depth infielder. He last appeared in the major leagues with the Red Sox in 2019, hitting .250/.279/.338 across 155 plate appearances.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2016
After missing most of 2017 and all of 2018 with shoulder problems, Hernandez returned to the big leagues in early June and spent most of the remainder of the season on the major-league roster. While it's certainly encouraging that he was able to play at all, his performances were hardly impressive. In 155 plate appearances, he posted a .250/.279/.338 slash line, stealing one base, homering twice and walking just three times. He primarily played second base, one of a handful of options the Red Sox tried out in the absence of Dustin Pedroia. It's hard to get too excited about a 27-year-old with a career 67 wRC+, and indeed the Red Sox designated him for assignment this offseason.
