2019 Fantasy Outlook
Briceno reached the majors for the first time in late May and remained there for most of the season, posting a .239/.299/.385 line in 128 plate appearances. His performance was unremarkable but acceptable for a backup catcher, especially when combined with above-average framing metrics. He never showed much with the bat at the higher levels of the minor leagues, so a step back into third catcher territory appears far more likely than improvement into a legitimate starter. He'll be battling the similarly mediocre Kevan Smith for the backup job behind Jonathan Lucroy this spring. Even if he does end up with unexpected at-bats, nothing in his track record suggests Briceno will have more than fringe deep-league appeal.
