Traded to Angels
Rondon was sent from the Rays to the Angels on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations, Steve Carney of Sports Radio 620 WDAE reports.
ANALYSIS
Rondon's primary accomplishment is that he's already spent parts of two seasons at the Low-A level at age 20, as his .205/.264/.304 slash line in 154 games for Bowling Green certainly isn't exciting. Scouts at one point liked his raw power, but he hasn't shown much of anything in game action thus far and is several years away from making a big-league impact.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2017
2016
2015
Rondon, who turned 18 last July, saw marked improvement during his 2016 stint at Princeton in the Appalachian League, improving across every major offensive category and blasting the first seven homers of his pro career in the process. While the positive jump in his overall game is certainly encouraging heading into his third pro season (still just 18 years old), he still sported an alarming 27.6 percent strikeout rate and 70 percent contact rate. However, as poor as those numbers were, they represented an improvement over the respective 34.8 percent and 61 percent figures that he tallied partially as a 16-year-old in 2015. He clearly has plenty of time to develop, and another season of improved plate discipline should exponentially brighten his prospects. This is a prospect with an extremely high ceiling and enough warts that it wouldn't be surprising if he never made it past Double-A. He is a true lottery ticket.
