Let go by Royals
Jones was released by Kansas City on Tuesday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones joined the Royals on a minor-league deal in December but struggled to a .214/.270/.357 slash line in 38 games with Triple-A Omaha. The 30-year-old had a .460 OPS in 36 contests for the Tigers last year and doesn't appear close to a return to the majors.

Jones came into 2020 with a regular job in Detroit and much to prove. His previous four seasons showed an inordinate amount of swing-and-miss in his game with as much inconsistency in the field as he had at the plate. The athleticism was there, but the results were full of streaks amongst deep valleys in Slumpsville. The 2020 season ended up being a great one for Jones right up until Jorge Lopez drilled him on the hand with a 95-mph fastball and ended Jones' season. Up to that point, the strikeouts were still there, but Jones was making hard contact and was not chasing pitches out of the zone as often as he had done in earlier seasons. In particular, his first-pitch swing rate went from a career rate of mid-30s to 16% last season. This bears watching as he was showing signs of taking that long-desired step forward before the injury ended his season.
