Ynoa was reassigned to minor-league camp Monday, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.
ANALYSIS
The 29-year-old bashed a pair of home runs in his case for a major-league roster spot, but it was all for naught as he never was much of a threat to his competition. Ynoa will likely serve as organizational depth moving forward, but don't be surprised if he reappears in Denver later in the season like he has the past few years.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2016
2015
The Rockies hoped for Ynoa to continue his surprising September success when they gave him a 25-man roster spot to start the season, but Ynoa wasn't able to replicate the .843 OPS during his short 2014 stint. The emergence of DJ LeMahieu and the success of Nolan Arenado relegated Ynoa to bench duty, where he was limited to 131 plate appearances on the season. He produced a .260/.277/.339 in these limited at-bats and was sent down to Triple-A Albuquerque after some struggles, which won't help him steal too many starts from LeMahieu and Arenado. Despite this, his propensity to play at third base, shortstop, second base, and left field gives the 28-year-old a good chance to stay on the big league roster as a young utility player going forward as long as he can get hits when given the opportunity.
Ynoa, who joined the Rockies as a minor league free agent last offseason, was one of the more unlikely reinforcements for the big club in September. After stalling out at the Double-A level with the Dodgers, the 27-year-old turned in a commendable debut season at Triple-A Colorado Springs, producing a .356 OBP to go along with steady glovework. He was expected to function as a depth player down the stretch upon getting his first promotion to the big leagues, but surprisingly settled into an everyday role over the final two weeks, finishing with a .343/.380/.463 line over 71 plate appearances. Ynoa’s .397 BABIP and roughly league-average hitting throughout his time in the minors suggest it’s dangerous to put too much stock in his sizzling September, but if nothing else, it bolsters his chances of winning a utility infield role for the Rockies in 2015. Ultimately though, it’s his ability to defend multiple positions that will be the greatest determinant in his bid for a 25-man roster spot.
