Agrees to MiLB deal
Rodriguez signed a minor-league deal with the Padres on Monday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodriguez spent most of his 2018 season in Double-A, where he posted a 4.26 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 25.1 frames. He last pitched in the big leagues during the 2015 campaign, and although he found decent success (3.86 ERA over 14 innings), he hasn't managed to return since. After he was released by the Twins in August of last year, Rodriguez figures to serve as organizational depth for San Diego.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2013
Rodriguez was a victim of the crowded Dodgers bullpen early in the year, bouncing between Albuquerque and Los Angeles on a few occasions before a back injury sidelined him from early August through mid-September. After being summoned in 76 contests in 2013 and pitching to a 2.32 ERA, it was very surprising to see one of the team's more talented relievers struggling to stay on the roster for a contending club. Rodriguez had a slight drop in his strikeout rate, but still sat at a strikeout per inning, while lowering his walk rate from 3.2 BB/9 in 2013 to 2.6 BB/9 last season. Rodriguez doesn't overpower opposing hitters, but his delivery is very deceptive and has proven to be particularly challenging for lefties, who have hit just .153/.231/.218 against him over the past two seasons. He'll likely have a regular place in the bullpen with the Dodgers for 2015.
