2016 Fantasy Outlook
Rodriguez went from being a very interesting pop-up prospect to a guy whose production was immediately called into question after receiving an 80-game suspension for testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug in August. In his second full season at High-A Lynchburg the 22-year-old outfielder had 12 homers, 24 steals and an .827 OPS before receiving his suspension. He posted relatively similar numbers back in 2012 at Low-A, but he had failed to approach those numbers in 2013 or 2014, so it is easy to conclude that perhaps the PEDs were playing a significant part in his success in 2015. Rodriguez won’t be able to get back on the field until 42 games into the 2016 season, at which point he will be 23 and likely headed back to High-A. His combination of speed and power makes him worth monitoring, but expectations should be tempered given his age and the PED concerns.
