The Dodgers released Lee on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
The 31-year-old righty had spent the entire season at Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he posted a 3.91 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 41:9 K:BB in 25.1 innings. With a promotion to the big club not imminent, Lee likely chose to opt out of his minor-league contract in pursuit of an opportunity with another organization.

2014
Lee, who made 37 relief appearances for Cleveland in 2014, made just one appearance for the Tribe last season and spent the remainder of the year at Triple-A Columbus. He was solid, albeit unspectacular, for the Clippers (1.18 WHIP, 2.5 BB/9, 10.0 K/9 in 58.1 innings across 48 games). Lee doesn't chew up righties (.668 OPS in 2015) but he isn't hammered by lefties (.724 OPS), so he doesn't present any huge matchup problems for the manager. He has shown great improvement in his control over his last three seasons which has turned him into a serviceable middle relief option. The Indians are pretty deep in bullpen arms, so Lee will need to pitch well in the spring to separate himself from the herd or it will be another summer spent in Columbus.
Lee had a few stints in Cleveland last season, racking up 28 innings to mixed results. Walks have been an issue for Lee thus far at the major league level, as evidenced by his 3.9 BB/9, abut his peripherals at Triple-A Columbus (11.1 K/9, 2.7 BB/9) offer reason for optimism. Lee features a fastball and a slider, throwing the former approximately two-thirds of the time. Unfortunately for Lee, the Indians are deep in the bullpen, and he still has minor league options left, so it's possible that another season shuttling between Cleveland and Columbus is on tap.
Lee worked his way back from Tommy John surgery by midseason and went on to throw productive innings across three minor leage stops (2.48 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 11.5 K/9 in 29 innings) in addition to a couple of relief appearances for the Tribe. Before the injury, Lee displayed gaudy strikeout rates with ample control at Double-A and Triple-A, working exclusively as a reliever and using an effective fastball-slider combo to retire opposing hitters. The Indians will be in need of bullpen arms in 2014 with at least four departures from last year's ranks and Lee figures to get a chance to earn a spot this spring.
