Past Fantasy Outlooks
2017
2015
Before 2016, Jensen had spent eight seasons in the minor leagues without ever appearing in the big leagues. That changed when he was called up by the Diamondbacks in September. He appeared in 17 games and logged 31 at-bats down the stretch. Jensen only got six hits (.194 average) but two of those left the yard. Jensen displayed good power in the minors -- he slugged 30 home runs last year in Triple-A, and hit at least 20 home runs in each of the five previous seasons. But he also had a 30.5 percent strikeout rate at Triple-A and a 38.2 percent rate in his brief stint in the majors. He inked a deal to play in Japan in 2017 and can be ignored in fantasy leagues for the foreseeable future.
Jensen turned heads in the Marlins’ system at Triple-A New Orleans last season with his third straight 20-home run campaign in the minors, blasting 27 home runs with 92 RBI over 133 games in 2014. Though the 26-year-old outfielder has proven capable of providing consistent pop on the farm, his strikeouts remain a major blocker to his chance for success with the Dodgers. Jensen struck out 147 times in 133 games last season (26.4 K%) while also suffering a slight dip in his walk rate from previous seasons. Given the Dodgers' talent at the outfield position, Jensen is almost assuredly headed back to Triple-A to begin the season. If he continues to mash, however, the prospect of a bench role down the line would be in play.
