October 28, 2021
Miller (elbow) cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Memphis on Thursday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller was designated for assignment early in the week, but he'll remain with the Cardinals' organization for now after going unclaimed on waivers. It's not yet clear whether the 34-year-old's right elbow strain -- which he suffered in late September -- will affect his availability for spring training in 2022.

2016
After not appearing in the majors in 2017, Miller spent the offseason working on conditioning and mechanics. He was signed to a minor-league deal by the Nationals, ostensibly for organizational depth. Miller began with Triple-A Syracuse. With the help of a newfound 95-mph fastball, Miller didn't allow a run in 13 innings, surrendering just three hits and three walks while fanning 23, prompting a late-May promotion. Miller picked up where he left off, tossing 10.2 more scoreless frames before giving up his first run June 15. That outing was the first of five straight in which Miller allowed a run. Through the break, Miller posted a 36.9 K%, but after, it was chopped in half at 18.3% even as he maintained his velocity throughout the entire campaign. The Nationals have fortified their bullpen, perhaps pushing Miller into seventh-inning duty.
Miller's 2016 was somewhat of a letdown after a surprisingly solid 2015 campaign. His momentum from the year prior landed him a full-time spot in the major league bullpen, although the success didn't carry over as his 5.35 ERA and 1.3 HR/9 in the first half of the season show. The 29-year-old then dealt with an oblique injury that sidelined him for two months, but once he was able to return, his numbers actually got worse. Similar to 2015, the right-hander displayed a strong strikeout ability (9.5 K/9), but his control was horrendous (4.2 BB/9). Miller's ability to consistently strike batters out is intriguing, but his flyball tendencies and lack of control got him sent off the 40-man roster in October, and he became a free agent. He'll compete for a bullpen spot with the Angels this spring after signing a minor league deal.
Signed on a minor league contract by the Rockies before the season, Miller was arguably the most pleasant surprise for Colorado in 2015. He bounced between Triple-A and the majors all season, yet produced a 1.38 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 14:2 K:BB prior to a few rough appearances in August. The 28-year-old finished the season with a 4.05 ERA, but his 0.96 WHIP and 3.45 K-to-walk ratio definitely opened some eyes in the Rockies organization. As long as Miller can replicate his strong 2015 campaign, he should be a major part of the Rockies' bullpen in 2016.

PSt. Louis Cardinals
October 25, 2021
Miller was designated for assignment Monday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports, and he seems likely to find a new home next season.
ANALYSIS
Miller can opt for minor-league free agency if he passes through waivers unclaimed. He could return to the St. Louis organization, though the righty reliever seems likely to latch on elsewhere. He posted a 6.16 ERA across 23 games this past season.
