Navarro was part of the Tigers' expanded roster in September, and while he carried an impressive barrel rate in a very small sample of playing time, it wasn't enough for him to keep a spot on the 40-man throughout the winter. After being outrighted to Toledo in November, Navarro refused the assignment and became a free agent. He's never slugged .400 as a part-time player at the MLB level, and turning 32 years old in May, there's little reason to think he'll change that if he's given a chance in 2018. Moreover, Navarro's best season at Triple-A came way back in 2011, when he was in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League and played half of his games at Salt Lake City as a member of the Angels organization. If he signs, he'll likely hang around at Triple-A as an organizational depth player, but even that opportunity isn't a guarantee for him at this point.
