Sanchez has died from injuries sustained in an accident on Feb. 13 when he was struck with a boat propeller while swimming in Venezuela, his agent told Baseball America.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez was just 20 years old. "Victor was a tremendous young man and a wonderful teammate. He was a very talented player who was close to fulfilling his promise as a major leaguer. He will be missed by his teammates, and the coaches and staff at the Mariners," Seattle GM Zack Zdurienick said.

The Mariners surprisingly started Sanchez at Double-A Jackson last season as a 19-year-old, skipping High-A High Desert. Sanchez responded to the aggressive approach, improving his strikeout rate and again showing the excellent control for which he is known. There's some debate regarding his ceiling as a big-league pitcher, but his floor looks like a back-of-the-rotation innings eater. Sanchez's fastball is in the low-90s, and his secondary stuff is not eye-popping either, but he throws strikes and keeps the ball down. He got into trouble last year when his command was off, giving up 17 homers. Sanchez is only 20, though, and likely will get a second go at Double-A to refine things.
